Doctor in Training

Hi. My name is Rikki and I am now a Family and Preventive Medicine resident in Southern CA. I hope you enjoy what nonsense I decide to post. Thanks for visiting my blog!!

Wow, it's been a month!!

I can't believe it's been a month since I've last posted. A lot has happened which I will try to update you on.

Dietrich's health: STILL waiting to hear from his GI Dr. about the results from his biopsy. His primary doctor looked up the results so we know he doesn't have anything serious. But we are still waiting to start him on some type of treatment for the bloody stools, which he still has. Due to the bleeding, he is anemic so we have started him on iron supplement.
He currently has oral thrush (a fungal infection in his mouth) but since the topical solution is not working after two weeks, I put a call in to his doctor so we can try something new.
The helmet is working and his head is rounding out very nicely. We might be able to go to only night wear next month if his progress is going well enough.

Dietrich's milestones: He is doing really well at sitting up, although he still falls over. He scoots along the floor now (our life is officially over as we know it!) and he loves to grab things off the bottom shelf of our coffee table. He has two teeth on the bottom. His hair is actually starting to grow!

My school life: Only two more weeks including this one until finals! I am currently passing all my classes so as long as I pass finals I will be cleared to take my national board exam. If I pass that I will be able to start my clerkship rotations in July. My first rotation is Internal Medicine which is a very demanding one, but at least I'll be able to get it out of the way.

Future plans: On Saturday I'm going to see Wicked with my grandma. She bought tickets back in October with a travel group and thought about taking me. I'm really excited.
We are planning a family vacation to Chicago at the end of June. This will be the first time on an airplane for the baby, so it should be interesting. We have friends there and are excited to spend some time with them and as a family.

That's about it. Sorry, no picture this time, I currently can't find the camera and am too lazy to look for it.

Dedication

Yesterday we dedicated Dietrich in the church. It was a wonderful time and very meaningful. Our district superintendent gave the message so it was special to have him a part of the ceremony. Dietrich slept through it, but we got it on tape so he can watch it later! Both of our families came and really enjoyed taking part in this special day. My grandma Kate got him the adorable outfit, which he is almost too big for so we did it just in time. At lunch Dietrich was amazed by Auntie Marla's scarf, it was so cute. It was a wonderful day.

Rolling Over

Last week I decided that I needed to get some type of mat to put on the floor for Dietrich to have daily tummy time on. We found the perfect one made by Fisher-Price that is an overhead gym when he is on his back, then the toys transfer to the floor for tummy time and it even converts to a tunnel once he can crawl. So I put him on his tummy today and was taking pictures of him. I looked away and when I looked back he was on his back!!! I put him back on his tummy after calling Steve over, and we saw him extend his left arm and roll himself over on to his back. I put him on his tummy again and got it on video! I didn't think he was supposed to be rolling over at 3 months. I guess I have to watch him a lot more carefully now when he's on the couch!!
